I remember as a teenager driving into the city over the Harbour Bridge and seeing the Price Waterhouse Building. I turned to my mum and dad and said “I’m going to work there one day”. I was going to be LOADED! A millionaire by the time I was 30, driving around in a convertible. Living the BIG life, living the RICH life!
Fast forward a good 20 or so years and I am still on an ever evolving quest towards the “rich life”. It turns out though, that those ideas I had as a teenager weren’t my ideas at all.. perhaps a little of my parents’ influence, my school, media, the community around me, but they certainly don’t reflect my truth about money.
These days I see the rich life a little differently. I want to have enough money to live comfortably, to be able to see more of the world and provide for my family. But equally important, I want to be able to have the freedom to do what I love, make a difference in the world, contribute to my community, be a presence in my children’s lives and keep my mind and my body healthy and happy. Funnily enough, a lot of these “riches” require time and energy, more than money.
This is my journey towards mastering money. Not just continuing to learn and share the nuts and bolts – like the basics of investment, budgeting, and understanding our tax system, but learning my truth when it comes to money. What is my relationship with money? Why do I connect security with money and how does that effect my “money decisions”? What do I value and does my spending align with that? Can I live the rich life I want without money dictating the terms?
Hopefully I can share a little knowledge, a little inspiration and challenge your thinking about how we all use and see money. Follow my journey as I seek the rich life.
